There’s always something…

We are getting ready to hit the road again tomorrow! Picked up RoVer from the dealer last week. They were able to fix one item, troubleshoot a few others, and they ordered parts to replace/repair the dash. We figured any parts would take months to come in (since there are still pandemic-related shortages), but supposedly they are arriving at the dealer this Friday…so we have an appointment booked when we return from this trip to have the dash taken care of. That is the biggest issue, so getting that fixed before the end of May will be wonderful. Fingers crossed the parts really do arrive!

Yesterday afternoon, we were getting some stuff loaded into the RV and there was this brand new, never-before-heard beeping noise coming from the vicinity of the refrigerator. What the heck?!?!? Adjusted some settings on the fridge, beeping continued. Mark decided to try connecting the power cord (we hadn’t bothered since there was no reason to power RoVer up), and sure enough the beeping stopped. But would it start up again when we unplug and start driving? We knew the propane tank was getting low, so we thought maybe once we got that filled, the problem would be resolved (since the refrigerator uses propane to stay cool when not connected to electric). Figured we’d get propane today and see what happens from there. Then, last night, Mark did some research and found some references to the refrigerator beeping if the door wasn’t closed tightly…so we were hopeful that was the problem. Turns out it probably was…when we went to the RV today, it looked like maybe one of the rods we use to keep items from bouncing around in the fridge may have been causing the door to not seal tightly. And, sure enough, when we unplugged the power, beeping DID NOT start up again! Oh, such fun…there’s always something to wonder/worry about!

So then it was off to the RV dealer here in Webster, conveniently just a few minutes from our house, to get the propane filled (it’s not a portable tank like gas grills use…it’s built into the RV, so they connect a hose to the RV and fill it up). Super smooth, the guy had it filled within a couple minutes and we paid and were on our way. Fortunately, however, Mark thought to turn on the propane-powered stove before we left, to make sure it was working okay (he had checked it before we got to the dealer and it was working, so we knew this was a ‘new’ issue!). Hmmm, it lights and then goes out immediately. He checks the tank, makes sure the propane is on. Tries again. Same issue. What the heck?!?!? Back inside to ask if they can take a look. Someone comes out, checks the tank/connections on the outside, everything looks okay. Mark tries again to light the stove and it’s fine…fires up and stays lit. Ugh. Just like when you take your car to the mechanic and the mysterious noise has disappeared. The employee said the propane probably just needed some time to flow through the line. That was much nicer than saying “newbie idiot” which may have been what they were thinking!

Then to the gas station for a fill up. Should have been quick and easy, but the lines were SO LONG because of this gas pipeline issue that’s panicking everyone on the East coast. And then we needed to put air in all six tires…that takes a while, too. But while we were doing that, a nice man came over and was asking a bunch of questions about the RV because he just bought a travel trailer and is second-guessing his decision…really liked the size of ours and wanted to know more about it. So that was fun. And now RoVer is safely parked near our townhouse (not actually in our complex because there’s no room for it here, but fortunately, we have a really wide parking area between our complex and the neighboring park and RoVer can stay there overnight occasionally!). We plan to be on the road around 9am tomorrow, heading to OH-IO!

RoVer in her overnight parking spot; we can see her from our driveway! (photo taken a couple weeks ago…trees aren’t quite so bare anymore – spring has arrived!)
