On Saturday, we drove to the Metro station to catch a train into DC. The Smithsonian museums are all still closed due to the pandemic, but we have always loved visiting the monuments and memorials…so we walked about eight miles, starting near the Capitol, heading to the newest memorial, Dwight D. Eisenhower (our first visit to that one!), then down the Mall and over to the Tidal Basin. Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorial, MLK Jr Memorial, Washington Monument, Korean War Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, WWII Memorial.
We also detoured to visit Black Lives Matter Plaza and Lafayette Square behind the White House. It was a long, tiring, fun day – and a bit warmer than we expected!
The Metro brought us back to College Park and we were at the RV in time for dinner. It was a true test of our little kitchen! We had both burners and the microwave going, and both Connor and I in the kitchen, and we did pretty well…while there’s no ‘extra’ space, we weren’t tripping over each other or struggling to get things done. By this time, it had started to rain, so we had to eat inside. Three of us at the tiny little kitchen table was a little cramped, but we managed just fine – Connor sat on one side, with Mark and I on the other.
